Post-Operative Wound Care Instructions

NOTE: If bleeding should occur, apply 20 minutes of constant pressure with sterile gauze or a clean dry cloth. YOU MUST USE OINTMENT TO KEEP THE WOUND AREA MOIST AT ALL TIMES AND THUS MINIMIZE SCARRING

FOR SURGERY WITHOUT STITCHES:

  1. Wash hands with antibacterial soap before caring for the surgical site.
  2. Cleanse the site daily with RUBBING ALCOHOL (use cotton ball or q-tip).
  3. Once the area is dry, apply a thin layer of AQUAPHOR or NEOSPORIN or POLYSPORIN ointment.
  4. Cover the site with a BAND-AID, or a DUODERM EXTRA THIN or TELFA bandage cut to size.
  5. Change the bandage once daily, preferably after showering, for the next 5-7 days. Keep it dry and clean until the wound is healed.

FOR SURGERY WITH STITCHES

PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT 11 DAYS OR MORE AFTER PROCEDURE FOR SUTURE REMOVAL, OR AS DIRECTED BY THE DOCTOR.

  1. Make sure to keep wound area dry while washing or showering for two days after surgery.
  2. Wash hands with antibacterial soap before caring for the site.
  3. After removing the bandage, cleanse the site daily with RUBBING ALCOHOL (use a q-tip).
  4. Once the area is dry, apply a thin layer of AQUAPHOR or NEOSPORIN or POLYSPORIN ointment.
  5. Cover the area with a BAND-AID, or a DUODERM EXTRA THIN or TELFA bandage cut to size.
  6. Change the bandage once daily, preferably after showering. Keep it dry and clean until the wound is healed.
  7. PLEASE WAIT 48 HRS AFTER SURGERY TO EXERCISE.
